Puffy Eyes: how to solve under-eye puffiness

Tired of morning eye bags? Get rid of puffiness for good.

Puffy Eyes

Our eyes get puffy, which means they look a little swollen, from time to time. This might happen if we don’t get enough sleep, if we cry a lot, or if we have allergies. Sometimes our eyes get puffy because our bodies hold on to too much water around them, and other times they get puffy because there’s too much fat under them, especially as we age.

We can do some things at home to help our puffy eyes feel better. We can use special creams or put something cold on our eyes, like a cold cloth. It’s best to check with a skin-savvy doctor about our swollen eyes to make sure everything is fine.

Introduction: Puffy Eyes

So why do our eyes get puffy? The skin around our eyes is very thin and quickly gets swollen. When our bodies hold on to too much water, like when we eat salty foods, don’t drink enough water, or our hormones change, this can happen. When we have allergies or issues with our sinuses, they can make the area under our eyes swell up too. This can make those puffy bags under our eyes even bigger.

What Causes Puffy Eyes?

Puffy Eyes

My eyes can look like they have little pillows under them sometimes, like they are big. This could be because I didn’t get enough sleep or because my family gave it to me. It’s okay, though; a lot of other people have it too!

  • Holding on to fluid: Liquid can build up around our eyes and make them puffy. Ingesting too much salty food, not drinking enough water, changing hormones, or having allergies can all make this happen.
  • Not getting enough sleep or feeling tired: The blood vessels around my eyes can get bigger if I don’t get enough sleep or feel tired. This can make my eyes look puffy. When I don’t get enough sleep, my body can hold on to too much water and not move it around properly, which can make my eyes look puffy.
  • Growing Older: As I get older, my skin gets looser and thinner, making it easier for it to look swollen. The muscles around my eyes may not be as strong either, which can cause them to look tired and swollen.
  • Asthma: My eyes may get swollen and puffy when I have allergies like hay fever. It may also itch, turn red, or become wet.
  • How I eat: Too much salty food, booze, or caffeine can make my eyes swell up because they make my body hold on to too much water.

Symptoms of Puffy Eyes

Our eyes can get big, which means they look swollen, from time to time. This may happen when we’re tired, have allergies, or are getting older, among other things. There are other things that can also make our eyes red. If our eyes look like these, it means they might be puffy:

  • My eyes look swollen: Something is making my eyes look like they’re getting bigger.
  • They look sagging: It looks like I have bags under my eyes because the skin is dragging.
  • They are red: Sometimes when I have allergies, the skin around my eyes turns pink and itch.
  • They’re tight: Because they are swollen, my eyes sometimes feel squished and hurt.
  • My skin doesn’t stretch: The skin around my eyes doesn’t bounce back as well as it used to, so it gains weight and sags.
  • It’s dark under my eyes: There are dark spots under my eyes that make me look tired when they are puffy.
  • It’s hard to open or close my eyes: When my eyes are really swollen, it’s hard to open or close them all the way.

Types of Eye Puffiness

  1. Temporary Puffiness: My eyes look a little puffy sometimes. This might happen if I don’t get enough sleep, am tired, or eat too much salty food.
  2. Chronic Puffiness: Sometimes it seems like my eyes are always puffy. My age, the fact that it runs in my family, or allergies could all be to blame. It’s hard to get rid of and needs extra care to get better.

How Can You Treat Puffy Eyes?

Puffy Eyes

It can be hard when my eyes look puffy. But there are things I can do to make them better and less swollen!

  1. Get Enough Sleep: Make sure you get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep every night. Getting enough sleep can help keep your eyes from getting puffy when you’re tired.
  2. Drink Water: Make sure you drink a lot of water during the day to keep your face moist and avoid getting puffy.
  3. Cold Stuff on Your Eyes: Putting something cold on your eyes can help make them look less puffy. For example, a cold cloth or apple slices can help. It works like magic!
  4. Don’t Eat Too Much Salt: To avoid making your eyes red, don’t eat too much salt. Too much salt can cause your body to hold on to too much water. Let’s try not to eat too much salty food, especially before bed.
  5. Sleep with Your Head Up: Put your head up while you sleep: Putting your head a little higher than your body while you sleep keeps water from getting around your eyes. It’s almost like a trick!
  6. Creams Just for Eyes: There are creams just for your eyes that can help make them look less red. Caffeine, hyaluronic acid, or peptides in these creams get rid of the bloating.

Let’s tell our friends on Facebook and Twitter about how to make those puffy under-eyes go away!
